The centerpieces of Jon Sumrall's first recruiting class at Florida are five-star prospects, wide receiver Easton Royal and offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller. Both prospects were featured in ESPN's latest scouting evaluation, which examined how the nation's top 2027 prospects could fit with their future programs.
The outlet's biggest takeaway is that Hiller and Royal have the potential to make immediate contributions.
Hiller is ESPN's No. 3 overall prospect as a "plug-and-play addition and true cornerstone lineman," college football recruiting coordinator Craig Haubert wrote. ESPN ranks Hiller as the nation's No. 3 overall prospect, with scout Craig Haubert projecting him as a "plug-and-play addition and a true cornerstone lineman."
At 6-foot-5-inches, 305 pounds, the Pennsylvania native possesses elite mobility and physicality that will give offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner's offense a distinct advantage in the trenches. Haubert added that Hiller "takes proper angles, lands a quick, jolting strike and uses his feet to mirror and adjust to counters."
Wide receiver Easton Royal is ESPN's No. 8 overall prospect, bringing another explosive weapon to Florida's already talented offense. "He already shows the feet, hips and balance of a polished route runner," ESPN national recruiting reporter Eli Lederman explained.
Royal joins four-star prospects Elias Pearl and Tramond Collins as part of a highly touted skill-position group coming to Gainesville. That group compounds the 2026 haul that features four-star pass wide receivers Davian Groce, Justin Williams and Marquez Daniel.
The Bayou State standout combines elite track speed with advanced route-running ability. Royal's versatility could allow Faulkner to deploy him across multiple formations, creating mismatches throughout the offense.
Florida's 2027 recruiting class has drawn national attention after climbing into the top five of 247Sports' team recruiting rankings earlier this year, with two high-profile recruiting flips reshaping the class. UF fell outside the top 10 after four-star offensive lineman Kennedee Jackson flipped his commitment to Georgia, reversing his June pledge to the Gators.
However, Royal stunned Texas by flipping his commitment to Florida after initially pledging to the Longhorns in November 2025, pushing the Orange and Blue back into the top 10.
