Anna Faris has been sober for a year and a half.
The 49-year-old actress admitted it "hurt" to read revelations from Mom creator Chuck Lorre's new memoir Sitcom, in which he wrote he was reluctant to cast her in the sitcom and explained how she exited for "mysterious" reasons before the eighth and final season, but she insisted she's in a much better place now.
Anna - who played Christy Plunkett, the newly sober daughter of a recovering addict, opposite Allison Janney in Mom - wrote on Instagram: “Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn’t see that coming. Of course it hurts.
“Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted.
“I’m proud of what we made together, and nothing changes how grateful I am for those people and those years.
“I’ve been sober for a year and a half. I was on a show about recovery and then I lived it. Now I’m healthy, I’m working, and I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time. If anyone reading this is where I was, I hope that’s useful. It gets better. I’m proof."
In Sitcom, Chuck recalled how the pilot for Mom "came together relatively quickly", but he "initially said no" when Anna was suggested for the project.
He wrote: "I wasn’t sure Anna would be appropriate for this kind of material."
But the 73-year-old showrunner changed his mind after reflecting on how he "bungled" his "working relationship" with former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen.
He wrote: “Someone’s personal life is none of my business. The mom in Mom would be, and should be, Anna Faris.”
He then wrote his "initial reluctance" to hire Anna "was, in fact, correct".
He added: “After six years, she left the show for mysterious reasons that were not mysterious to anyone on the show.”
Earlier this year, the 49-year-old actress - who has son Jack, 14, with ex-husband Chris Pratt - admitted she was "disturbed by [her] lack of ambition" during her time on Mom and was also struggling with mental health problems.
She told Chelsea Handler on the Dear Chelsea podcast: “I was, in hindsight, I think pretty depressed, like, premenopausal depression without recognising it.
"I was just having a distant relationship with this city and my career and wondering if I had enough money to retire...
"There was a correlation between drinking and depression for me... I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage.”
