The Federal Government has approved the design of a monorail project that will connect Ikeja Railway Station to the new Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 1 in Lagos.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this in a post on X, saying the design was approved after an assessment involving the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and engineering teams from both organisations.

Keyamo said the monorail would convey commuters and air passengers from Ikeja Railway Station, where the Lagos Red Line terminates, to the airport terminal currently undergoing reconstruction.
According to the minister, the proposed line will have five stations: Ikeja Station, Domestic Airport Station, Beesam Station, Toll Gate Station and MMIA Airport Station.
He described the monorail as an integral part of the reconstruction of the airport, which serves as Nigeria’s major international aviation gateway.
The project is expected to improve access between the rail network and the airport, although the minister’s announcement did not specify a construction timeline, project cost or proposed completion date.
