Time may be slipping away to get out and enjoy the fall leaves, with strong wind gusts moving into parts of Alberta today that will threaten to yank many off trees.
A wind warning was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) early Wednesday morning for parts of Alberta, including Edmonton, Lloydminster, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Fort Saskatchewan, Drayton Valley, Vegreville, Devon, Leduc, Whitecourt, and Slave Lake.
Strong winds with gusts to 90 km/h are expected, with ECCC noting that strong winds will develop today, with westerly wind gusts developing near noon in the Slave Lake and Swan Hills areas. These winds will progress to the southeast and reach the Lloydminster area by early evening, before weakening this evening.
“High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Secure loose objects. Be prepared to adapt your driving for changing conditions. Prepare for possible disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities,” the warning added.
