Virgil van Dijk has been one of Liverpool's most important players over the last few years.
The towering Dutchman has kept the Reds' defence in line ever since he joined from Southampton and, without him, the Anfield outfit would have been much worse off.
They'd have certainly not won as many trophies as they did if he wasn't one of their players.
However, now that he's 35 years old, it's clear that his time at the top could be coming to an end soon.
This thought process has been shared by fans and the media which is why talk of Liverpool finding a replacement for him has been rife.
But, now, it seems like the Reds have identified who they want to replace their captain.
Nottingham Forest's Murillo is seen as Liverpool's ideal Virgil van Dijk successor
Many different players have been linked with Liverpool over the last couple of years.
And, even though Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo were brought in over the summer, some more changes are still needed.
Because, with the injury history that Araujo and Joe Gomez have, one of them is bound to be side-lined for a decent chunk of time at some point in the season.
Of course, Giovanni Leoni could end up coming back into Liverpool's plans once he returns from injury but, since he's not played a minute of Premier League football yet, it's unclear how well he'll perform.
So, this latest update from TEAMtalk about Andoni Iraola wanting Nottingham Forest's Murillo to replace Van Dijk makes a lot of sense.
"Nottingham Forest are braced for renewed interest in Murillo this winter amid reports earlier this week that the Brazilian now features prominently on Manchester United’s wishlist," they wrote.
"Though sources close to the club insist any January departure would take an ‘exceptional offer’ and remains highly unlikely.
"Liverpool and Chelsea are both long-term admirers – the former as they potentially consider life after defensive lynchpin Virgil van Dijk – while Manchester United are all understood to hold genuine admiration for a player who combines pace, left-footed distribution and aerial presence."
Murillo would be a smart player for Liverpool to explore signing
Last season, Liverpool's interest in Murillo was well documented.
It was clear to everyone who watched the Anfield outfit play that a brand new back line was needed if they wanted to get back to competing for silverware.
And, with the additions of Araujo and Jacquet, they managed to do this.
However, now that Van Dijk is in the final year of his deal, a succession plan for the veteran needs to be put in place so that Iraola isn't left short-handed.
Of all the options linked with L4, Murillo would be one of the best. The Brazilian has got plenty of Premier League experience under his belt and, the fact he's left-footed makes him a perfect replacement for Van Dijk.
Indeed, he would cost a hefty chunk of change for Liverpool to bring in but, if they want someone who could fit straight into Iraola's plans, the 24 year old could be the perfect addition.
