Over the weekend, both UNC and NC State had exhibition games with very different results: the Tar Heels lost to Indiana, 76-58, while NC State beat Mississippi State, 77-73.
UNC was outrebounded by 22, which had to hurt Michael Malone’s pride. Freshman Sayon Keita finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Matt Able chipped in 11.
On the bright side, former Duke wing Darren Harris scored 11 for the Hoosiers.
As for the Wuffies, Paul McNeil and Preston Edmead had 16 each, while Darius Adams finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Ven-Allen Lubin had 13 points and 5 rebounds, and hit four key foul shots down the stretch.
As we’ve said before, it’s an exhibition game, and while everyone wants to win, these games are more about analyzing players, lineups, and what your team is capable of, as well as understanding what its weaknesses are and how to mask them.
We’ll have a much better idea of where things stand when the meaningful games start.
