OpenAI is hiring again in Dublin, and the number keeps climbing.
The company announced on October 12, 2026, that it will add another 200 jobs to its European headquarters in Ireland. That brings its total commitment in the country to 450 roles. Three months ago, the figure was 250.
The numbers behind the Dublin expansion
This is the second hiring announcement from OpenAI in Ireland this year. Back in July 2026, the company said it planned to add 250 positions over a two-year window. That plan was pitched as a way to roughly triple its Irish workforce, moving it from over 100 people to around 350. The key facts frame that buildout as running through 2028.
The October update stacks 200 more roles on top. Combined, OpenAI has now committed to 450 jobs in the region.
As of October 2026, the company employs over 120 people in Ireland. So the pledged headcount represents a substantial multiple of where the team stands today.
Those new hires will need desks. OpenAI is moving into the Tropical Fruit Warehouse in Dublin’s Docklands, a space covering 88,000 square feet (8,000 square meters). The relocation is targeted for late 2026.
How OpenAI got here
Dublin is not a new address for OpenAI. The company set up its EU base in Ireland in 2023, giving it a legal and operational foothold inside the European Union. The Dublin office was originally focused on operations, trust and safety, legal, security engineering, and go-to-market roles.
In 2025, it launched an initiative called “OpenAI for Ireland.” The program focuses on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, and skills development in the country.
Irish officials have welcomed the investments. The expansion lines up with the country’s national AI strategies and reinforces Ireland’s position as a tech and AI hub in Europe.
What this means for Europe’s AI talent market
The most immediate effect lands on the Irish labor market. Adding hundreds of roles at a high-profile AI company creates a new gravitational pull for engineers, policy specialists, sales staff, and support teams across the region.
There are a few things to track from here. The first is execution: committed roles are a promise, not a payroll. Moving from over 120 employees to hundreds more will take time, and the timeline stretches to 2028 for at least part of the plan.
The second is the office move. The Docklands relocation is targeted for late 2026, and whether it lands on schedule will be an early signal of how smoothly the broader expansion is running.
The third is the “OpenAI for Ireland” program. If it produces visible results for local SMEs and startups, it strengthens the case that the expansion benefits the Irish economy beyond OpenAI’s own headcount.
Finally, Ireland’s own positioning is at stake. Every major AI investment that chooses Dublin reinforces the country’s pitch as a European base for tech operations. With 450 committed roles and 88,000 square feet of new space, OpenAI has just given that pitch a sizable new reference point.
