The delegation will assess halal compliance and hygiene in the company’s production processes, as Salam TV prepares to unveil the grand prize for its Omumanyi competition and Hajj officials work towards resuming Umrah travel.
A delegation of Ugandan Muslim clerics and religious officials is travelling to Nairobi, Kenya, to inspect Yo Kuku factories and assess compliance with halal standards and hygiene requirements in the production of chicken products, particularly sausages.
The delegation includes Sheikhs Muhsin Burhan Kiti, Shafik Mafo, Abdulrazak Kakooza of the Uganda Halal Bureau, and Hajj Karim Kaliisa, the managing director of Salam TV and Salam Charity.
Speaking ahead of the visit, the delegation said the inspection would enable them to assess the production processes and establish whether Yo Kuku products meet the required halal standards.
Sheikh Muhsin Burhan Kiti said he had reservations about eating sausages sold in Uganda because of concerns about how some products were made.
He said the visit would allow the delegation to witness firsthand how Yo Kuku manufactures its sausages and establish their halal status for Ugandan consumers at home and abroad.
Sheikh Mafo Shafik said the purpose of the visit was to verify the halal status of the company’s products, enabling consumers to make informed choices about what they eat.
Sheikh Abdulrazak Kakooza of the Uganda Halal Bureau said the delegation would apply its technical expertise to assess compliance with halal requirements and communicate its findings to the public.
A representative of Yo Kuku Uganda said the tour was intended to demonstrate how the company’s products comply with applicable halal requirements and strengthen its partnership with the Muslim community in Uganda and beyond.
Kaliisa said Salam TV had a responsibility to inform the public about halal products and companies that meet the required standards.
“We are heading to Nairobi with different Ugandan Sheikhs to visit the factories of Yo Kuku. One of our major roles is to assess how halal the products are made and the level of cleanliness, and to encourage people to use their products. As Salam TV, it is our role to inform people about all the halal products in the country and the trusted companies to work with,” Kaliisa said.
Meanwhile, Kaliisa provided an update on the seventh edition of Salam TV’s Omumanyi wa Salam TV 2026 competition, saying regional contests had been completed in Busoga, Eastern and Bunyoro-Toro.
The next competitions are scheduled for Northern Uganda on November 1, followed by West Nile on November 7.
On October 27, Salam TV will officially unveil the car to be awarded to this year’s winner.
Kaliisa said the competition would subsequently move to the South Western region, Greater Masaka and Kampala Metropolitan before the grand finale, where regional winners will compete for the championship.
“The prizes are set, including motor vehicles, land titles, Hajj pilgrimage, among others. We call upon you to be part of us. This campaign will soon be extended to East Africa, so you should seize this opportunity while it is still at the national level,” he said.
On Hajj and Umrah, Kaliisa said the situation at the airport was stabilising, with the Uganda Bureau of Hajj Affairs and Saudi Arabian authorities working to facilitate the resumption of Umrah pilgrimages while preparations for Hajj continued.
He said the relevant ministry and the World Health Organization had provided assurances that the situation was under control.
Kaliisa urged Ugandans planning to undertake the pilgrimages to prepare and fulfil the necessary requirements, adding that the federation continued to provide updates and had built trust over the years.
He also assured intending pilgrims that their funds would remain protected if unforeseen circumstances forced them to postpone their journeys.
“They always do their best to serve us in a professional manner, and in case anything happens, our funds are always safe and can be extended to the next year. We thank all the Hajj officers for the great work done. The Government of Uganda is doing its best, and the Ministry is not sleeping, ensuring that people perform Hajj and Umrah without any interruption,” Kaliisa said.
