Sampdoria have appointed Luca D’Angelo as their new coach, overlooking Marco Giampaolo after sacking Bernardo Corradi earlier this week.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the 55-year-old was presented on Friday after signing a contract until June 2028.
Giampaolo had been the frontrunner to return for a third spell after Corradi’s dismissal on Monday, but the club eventually opted for D’Angelo. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Alessandro Mignani, Fabio Caserta, Fabrizio Castori and Giuseppe Iachini were also considered.
“It was easy to say yes to Sampdoria, it’s a historic club and a very important step in my career,” D’Angelo said. “I think so far Sampdoria have paid for the fact that they are a club that cannot be in this division. You need players with different characteristics and great personality.”

D’Angelo inherits a Sampdoria side bottom of Serie B
The former Pisa and Spezia coach takes over a team bottom of the table with four points from seven games. Supporters’ groups have also called a protest march for 31 October.
He led Spezia to the Serie B play-off final in 2025 and will bring former midfielder Luca Mora with him as his assistant. Attilio Lombardo, who took training in the interim, will stay on the staff.
D’Angelo believes the players are still committed. “There are lads who care about the team and about Sampdoria, because they realise where they are.”
His first game is away to Südtirol on Saturday, followed by a trip to Ascoli. Sampdoria are the fourth Serie B club to change coach this season.
