The Special Court for Cases under the POCSO Act in Nagapattinam on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old man to 10 years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in 2019.
The court imposed a ₹3,500 fine on the convict, identified as K. Vigneshwara Velan of Karaikal.
Based on a complaint, the police registered a case under Section 294(b), 306, 354, 354(d) and 506(i) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act, 2012. The accused was subsequently arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
