Darius Slayton’s short run in Indianapolis has come to an end.
The Colts announced Friday they released the veteran receiver they signed in late September for another option at wideout after Alec Pierce hit injury reserve with a heel issue.
The Colts had hoped Slayton’s familiarity with quarterback Daniel Jones from several seasons together with the Giants would make him a downfield threat with Pierce out.

In his handful of weeks as a Colt, Slayton did not see the field.
Slayton, 29, spent seven seasons with the Giants after they selected him in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, where he averaged 15.0 yards per catch on 296 career receptions with 4,435 total yards.
He led the Giants in receiving yards in 2022 and 2023, but his production gradually declined for Big Blue until his release, even with Malik Nabers missing much of the 2025 season.
Slayton was partially hindered by double sports hernias last season, which he underwent surgery for on April 30.

His tenure with the Giants came to an end with his Sept. 7 release.
“Grateful for my time in NY,” he posted to X. “7 years a Giant nothing but love for one of the most prestigious organizations in the NFL. Excited to see what’s next.’’
Slayton suffered a knee injury at the end of last week’s Colts practices that kept him out of Indianapolis’ lineup in Week 5.
Head coach Shane Steichen said this week Slayton’s injury had “gotten better.”
The Colts have been thin at receiver to start the season.
Aside from Pierce, Ashton Dulin has dealt with a hamstring injury and Keenan Allen missed the Colts’ contest with the Commanders in London in Week 4.
