The NDA partners (TDP, BJP and JSP) on Thursday arrived at a seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming elections to the Urban Local Bodies scheduled to be conducted on October 28.
The TDP would contest 11 of the 17 Municipal Corporations, including the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, while the JSP and BJP would be in the fray in four and two corporations respectively.
The announcement came a day before the filing of nominations and on the day when the YSRCP, too, announced its candidates for a few corporations and municipalities.
As per the agreement, the JSP would contest the Vijayawada, Kakinada, Mangalagiri-Tadepalli and Srikakulam municipal corporations, while the BJP would be in the fray in Rajamahendravaram and Anantapur corporations. The JSP was likely to field Vangaveeti Radha as its Mayor candidate from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, sources said.
The NDA partners reached consensus after a series of deliberations over the past few days. The JSP and BJP had reportedly sought more number of Mayor seats, but the TDP leadership managed to convince them to accept six corporations considering the reach it had at the grassroots-level, the sources said.
Of the 106 municiaplities and nagar panchayats, the TDP would contest in 78, JSP in 21 and BJP in seven. With the nomination process to start from Friday, the local leadership of the three parties would be deciding the number of corporators or councillors each party would contest, the source added.
Of the total 123 urban local bodies, the TDP would contest 89, JSP 25 and BJP nine.
