Only seven districts in the province of Punjab have achieved more than half of their government school enrollment targets, six months into the new academic session.
According to the latest report issued by the Punjab Education Department, the remaining 33 districts have failed to reach even 50 percent of their assigned targets. Sahiwal topped the seven districts that crossed the mark, followed by Nankana Sahib.
Rajanpur recorded the lowest achievement at 19 percent. Kot Addu followed at 20 percent and Muzaffargarh at 21 percent.
Faisalabad and Bahawalpur each reached 23 percent, while Khushab stood at 24 percent and Sargodha at 25 percent. Kasur and Mandi Bahauddin recorded 26 percent each, Sialkot 27 percent, Chakwal and Sheikhupura 28 percent each, and Layyah 29 percent.
In provincial capital, government schools enrolled 603,134 children against a target of two million, achieving 30 percent. The provincial capital ranked 24th among the districts in Punjab in meeting its enrollment target.
The report shows that enrollment remains below expectations across the province, including in major urban centres. The shortfall comes as the provincial government continues its efforts to bring more children into the public education system.
