KATHMANDU, Oct 14: National transmission line has been extended to Hatiya of Bhotekhola rural municipality-3, the northern and remote area of Sankhuwasabha.
With the expansion of the transmission line, reliable electricity service has been ensured to locals. Earlier, the locals of the area had been using electricity produced from micro hydropower projects and power is now being supplied at the area through national transmission line, according to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.
A press release issued by the Ministry reads that after the expansion of the national grid, the power is being supplied by installing three-phase meter at Bhotkhola rural municipality office and Hatiya-based hospital

With this, it is expected that locals as well as government offices, health institutions, mills and cottage industries would be directly benefitted. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, thanked the employees of Nepal Electricity Authority, technicians and people's representatives for making the electricity supply reliable by expanding power access at remote areas.
Minister Shrestha shared that the expansion of national transmission lines would increase availability and reliability of electricity in local levels as well as help boost economic and social activities.
Similarly, a process to expand the national transmission line at Kimathanka of Bhotkhola rural municipality has been forwarded. The NEA has already forwarded the contract process for this purpose and a target has been set to extend electricity supply at Kimathanka from the national grid within the current fiscal year.
The NEA has continuously forwarded expansion of power supply at rural areas of Sankhuwasabha through the national grid. Around 95 per cent households of the district have been using electricity service through the national transmission line. However, the remaining households are using electricity service through micro hydropower and solar energy.
If the goal of expanding the transmission line to Kimathanka is achieved, another significant milestone would be achieved in expanding electricity service at the remote area, bordering China.
