The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has pledged to maintain predictable and transparent regulations to attract long-term investment in Uganda’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector while protecting consumers.
UCC executive director Nyombi Thembo said a stable regulatory environment was essential for attracting investors, promoting competition and expanding consumer choice in the communications market.
“We remain committed to a predictable, transparent and enabling regulatory environment that attracts long-term investment while safeguarding consumers,” Thembo said.
He made the remarks after meeting Jean Francois Duboy and Julius Kayoboke, representatives of Group Vivendi Africa (GVA), who visited the commission to update it on the company’s progress and investments in Uganda’s ICT sector.
Thembo welcomed GVA’s continued investment, saying the company was contributing to competition and expanding consumer choice.
The meeting also covered other issues affecting the ICT sector, although UCC did not disclose details of the discussions or the value of GVA’s investment.
“We agreed to maintain open dialogue and collaboration to support the sustainable growth of Uganda’s ICT sector,” Thembo said.
The engagement highlights the regulator’s dual role of overseeing the communications industry and encouraging private investment in digital infrastructure and services.
However, UCC did not provide details of GVA’s existing projects in Uganda, planned investments or any specific regulatory concerns raised during the meeting.
