A heavily pregnant woman has been left homeless after a fire gutted her home at Atasemanso, a suburb of Kumasi, in the early hours of Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Six other shops were also destroyed in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Diana Sifari, who is nearing the third trimester of her pregnancy, wept as she described her ordeal.
“I left the room to buy something only to return to see it burnt down. I don’t know where I am going to sleep with my unborn child. I have lost everything. Things I have bought for my labor are all destroyed,” she said.
Another victim, a trader identified only as Abena, lost her shop and wares to the fire.
“I heard people shouting ‘fire, fire’ at around 5:30 a.m. I rushed here only to see my shop and wares burnt to ashes,” she said.
The Atasemanso incident is the fourth fire recorded in the Ashanti Region within the last few days.
On Friday, October 9, a warehouse at Sokoban-Daaban was gutted.
Then on Friday, October 9, a few hours later, a section of the Kejetia Market went up in flames.
On Saturday, October 10, the popular Moro Market in the Manhyia North Constituency was also destroyed.
Investigations into the cause of the fires are yet to be reported.
