Legora has formed a partnership with Blue J, the tax data platform – however they stressed to Artificial Lawyer that this did not mean they were moving beyond the legal sector, and that this research info was for lawyers working on tax matters.
The company told AL: ‘Legora and Blue J are announcing a product integration; Legora is not moving into tax. We’re committed to building the agentic operating system for legal work, and this integration will give our customers who already use Blue J access to its tax research from inside the Legora aOS, with cited answers.
‘Eligible customers can query Blue J directly in Legora and receive answers with inline citations linking back to sources in Blue J.’
However, the move comes at a time when the legal AI grapevine is buzzing with speculation about what the major platforms will do next.
A belief that Legora will move into other fields beyond law has been fuelled by its alliance with Deloitte, and also when this year in an interview with OpenAI a member of their team said that ‘Legora is extending its platform beyond legal work into audit, tax, compliance and risk,’ (see here), plus the fact that they are now recruiting for a legal engineer specifically for ‘tax and consulting’.
The job description states that: ‘[You will act] as a thought partner to tax partners, legal advisory leaders, and consulting teams…’ and that you can ‘be the voice of tax and legal advisory users inside Legora’.

Now, it’s true that tax and legal do indeed overlap a lot – and one can see many ‘tax’ roles as in fact part of the legal world. But Legora’s activities are understandably stirring things up.
The Why?
As to why they’re doing this, they added: ‘Shared customers asked for this integration so they could access Blue J in the same place they already do the rest of their legal work. Blue J is built specifically for tax research and is used by more than 6,000 organizations globally.’
And they also explained that: ‘The integration is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect Blue J’s tax research to the Legora aOS. Blue J performs the research on its own infrastructure. Users need subscriptions to both products and must sign in with their own accounts. Each answer includes inline citations linking to the underlying Blue J sources, subject to applicable content permissions. These citations allow lawyers to verify the reasoning before using it in advice or client deliverables.’
— Legal Innovators UK Conference, November 4 and 5, London —

Any road, here’s Benjamin Alarie, CEO and co-founder of Blue J: ‘Tax questions come up in every kind of matter, and the people answering them shouldn’t have to leave their work to develop a defensible answer. Bringing Blue J into Legora means tax professionals can get cited analysis where they already work, check the source materials themselves, and keep their judgment at the centre of their advice.’
And also Bryan Tsao, Chief Product Officer at Legora, who concluded: ‘Blue J adds specialist depth through additional secondary sources lawyers can check, right in the work they’re already doing.’
The integration will open first to selected eligible joint customers through early access, with general availability planned for November, they added.
