Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) announced on Sunday, October 18, 2026, an expansion of its financial allocations supporting the national housing sector, increasing the designated lending portfolio to three trillion Iraqi dinars (approximately $1.97 billion).
The initiative is aimed directly at addressing the high volume of citizen applications seeking to purchase apartments and residential units inside organized housing complexes across Iraqi governorates.
According to an official administrative directive issued by the Central Bank, the decision is enacted pursuant to the provisions of CBI Law No. 56 of 2004, as amended.
The measure triples the previous funding ceiling specified in a prior regulatory directive dated August 22, 2024, raising the aggregate financing cap from one trillion dinars to three trillion dinars while retaining the existing operational terms, repayment criteria, and credit conditions.
The directive instructed the Director General of the relevant specialized lending institution to visit the Central Bank’s headquarters in Baghdad to formally sign the contractual annex required for the allocation increase and finalize administrative protocols.
The liquidity injection expands mortgage-backed real estate credit, stimulates the domestic construction industry, and bridges the acute housing deficit by enabling middle-income citizens to secure homeownership inside modern investment residential compounds.
