Coming into the 2026 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys were considered somewhat of a Super Bowl dark horse. The team showed flashes of greatness under first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer last season, and the front office made a lot of changes on the defensive side of the ball during the offseason.
Through six games this season, though, those changes aren’t proving fruitful at all. The Cowboys have given up over 20 points in every single game this season, including 24 to the Jalon Daniels-quarterbacked Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What’s amplifying the defense’s flaws is that the offense isn’t picking up the slack.
Dak Prescott is going through a brutal two-game stretch, and Dallas has scored a combined 29 points over the last two weeks. This upcoming three-game stretch will essentially make or break the Cowboys’ season. Dallas will play against the Jalen Hurts-less Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, and Indianapolis Colts over the next three weeks.
Jerry Jones has a warning for the Cowboys
Jerry Jones says Dallas Cowboys could be buyers, and potentially sellers, at NFL Trade Deadline
What makes that stretch even more intriguing is that it leads up to the NFL Trade Deadline on November 10. If the Cowboys lose even two of those games, Jerry Jonescould be enticed into selling off some pieces in order to get back draft capital for the future. On the contrary, if the Cowboys win all three games, Jones would be willing to make a trade to help the team. He revealed as much to the media recently.
“I’ll be real clear, I could see being active at the trade deadline if it was something that could help the team this year… But I don’t rule it out now (selling if the right offer comes along).”
Jones loves pulling off trades, so it wouldn’t surprise anyone if it comes to fruition at the deadline. But it will all depend on how these next three games go for the Cowboys.
