BENJA SIWILA CONGRATULATES EZRA TEMBO ON RECOGNITION AS LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION

I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our party president and Dag Hammarskjöld Constituency Member of Parliament, Mr. Ezra Tembo, following his election by the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) to the position of Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and his recognition by the Speaker of the National Assembly, effective Wednesday, October 20, 2026.

This recognition is a significant milestone for our party and a testament to Mr. Tembo’s leadership, integrity and commitment to strengthening Zambia’s multiparty democracy.

As Deputy National Youth Chairperson, I am particularly encouraged by his recent efforts to promote reconciliation among political players following the highly competitive August 13 general election. His willingness to bridge political divisions demonstrates a mature understanding that, beyond party affiliations, our collective responsibility is to serve the Zambian people and protect national unity.

I am confident that under his leadership, the opposition will provide objective, credible and constructive checks and balances to the ruling party without personal conflicts or political vendettas. Our responsibility is to hold government accountable, offer alternative solutions and ensure that the interests of citizens remain at the centre of national discourse.

Mr. Tembo represents fresh energy, sober leadership and integrity at a critical moment in our country’s democratic journey. I believe his leadership will inspire confidence among young people and strengthen the role of the opposition in Parliament.

I also congratulate Milenge Member of Parliament, Mr. Gystave Chonde, on his recognition as Party Whip and Nyimba Member of Parliament, Mr. Paul Lungu, on his recognition as Deputy Party Whip.
