The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State, Oriyomi Hamzat, has stressed the need for peaceful political rallies across the state’s 33 local government areas.
He also called for collaboration between political actors and security agencies, including the police, to ensure peaceful political activities.
Hamzat made the call during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, at his office in Ibadan on Wednesday.
He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between political actors and security agencies in promoting a peaceful political atmosphere, especially as campaigns and rallies gather momentum across the state.
He reiterated the need to protect lives and property, safeguard democratic participation and ensure that every political party and candidate could exercise their constitutional rights without fear of violence or intimidation.
In his remarks, Olugbenga reassured Hamzat of the Police Command’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all political parties and candidates.
He emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force remained neutral and non-partisan in the discharge of its duties.
The commissioner further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and fostering peace throughout Oyo State. He stressed the importance of cooperation among political stakeholders and urged all parties to conduct their activities peacefully and within the law.
The visit underscored Hamzat’s commitment to peaceful political engagement, constructive dialogue with security agencies, and the preservation of peace and democratic values in Oyo State as preparations for the 2027 governorship election continue.
