Delhi's Connaught Place is on alert on Friday, October 16, as the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced a 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest at Central Park. The gathering is expected to begin at 5 pm, while traffic restrictions in and around Connaught Place may start from 3 pm. The Delhi Traffic Police has warned of possible congestion and diversions on 21 roads and stretches across central Delhi. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has also announced that Central Park will remain closed to the public on October 16 and 17. The restrictions may change depending on the situation on the ground.

• Protest venue: Central Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi
• Expected gathering time: 5 pm

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has called on people to join the gathering carrying the national flag. The party has linked its protest to demands concerning voting rights, alleged irregularities in voter rolls and the recent arrests of its leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.

The Delhi High Court declined to stop the proposed protest on October 16. However, Delhi Police has said it will take necessary steps to regulate the gathering and maintain public order. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are in force in Connaught Place and adjoining areas.

CJP Tiranga protest today: Which roads will face diversions today?

According to the traffic advisory reported on October 16, traffic movement may be affected on the following 21 roads and stretches from 3 pm. Diversions will depend on the situation.

Motorists should follow instructions from traffic personnel and avoid parking on roads near the protest site. Using public transport where practical may help reduce delays.

CJP October 16 Protest: Are roads to New Delhi Railway Station open?

There is no blanket announcement that all roads to New Delhi Railway Station will be closed. However, travellers should expect possible delays because Chelmsford Road, Basant Lane, Minto Road and other stretches in central Delhi could be affected by traffic restrictions.

If you have a train to catch, keep these points in mind:

• Leave earlier than usual, particularly if your journey overlaps with the afternoon or evening restrictions.
• Check live traffic updates before leaving for the station.
• Consider taking the Metro where convenient and confirm your last-mile route.
• Follow police directions if your usual approach road is diverted.

The advisory does not establish that every approach to the railway station will be blocked. Travellers should check the latest traffic situation before setting out rather than assume either unrestricted access or a complete closure.

CJP CP Protest Today: What's open and what's closed in Delhi today?

The confirmed closure concerns Central Park in Connaught Place. Other restrictions may be imposed depending on security and traffic conditions.

Central Park, Connaught Place is closed

Roads around Connaught Place: Possible diversions

Delhi Metro: Services not confirmed closed

Palika Bazaar, shops and offices: No blanket closure of all shops, offices or markets has been confirmed in the cited advisories. Access and business activity around Connaught Place may nevertheless be disrupted.

Why is CJP holding the Tiranga protest?

The Cockroach Janata Party has called the gathering a 'Lehra Do Tiranga' march. Its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, has urged people to assemble with the national flag at Connaught Place.

The protest comes amid the party's campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in voter rolls and its opposition to the arrests of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. These are allegations and demands raised by the party, not established findings of wrongdoing.

Delhi Police has appealed to the public to stay away from the proposed gathering. Authorities have said they may consider allowing a selected group to carry the national flag and sing the national anthem at a suitable location, subject to arrangements on the ground.

What should commuters do today?

The most important time to watch is 3 pm onwards, when traffic disruptions are expected to begin. The proposed gathering is scheduled for 5 pm, but restrictions may change before or during the event.

People travelling through central Delhi should check the official Delhi Traffic Police website and twitter handles for updates. For traffic assistance, the police lists helpline numbers 1095 and 011-25844444.

If your destination is New Delhi Railway Station, allow extra time and verify your approach route before leaving. For Connaught Place visitors, Central Park will remain inaccessible to the public on both October 16 and 17.
