Vusi Nova has released a deeply personal tribute song, Asinilibelanga, honouring the South African music legends and loved ones the country has lost. The release, shared on Instagram in October 2026, was accompanied by a compilation-style montage of studio portraits and live stage footage set against vivid coloured backdrops and purple-lit concert stages, giving the project a warm, celebratory feel despite its poignant subject matter.
In a heartfelt caption, the singer explained the story behind the song's title. He wrote: "Yesterday, I asked you who comes to mind when you hear the word Asinilibelanga. Your responses touched me deeply. Some remembered the musical legends we've lost, while others remembered family members and loved ones who are no longer with us."
A song bigger than music
Nova drew a direct line between Asinilibelanga and his earlier hit. "Years ago, Asphelelanga was my way of saying THANK YOU. Today, Asinilibelanga is my way of saying WE HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN YOU," he wrote, before adding: "And that's when I realised that this song is bigger than music."
Among the legends he paid tribute to were rapper AKA, DJ Sumbody, Zahara, Amapiano artists Mpura and Killer KAU, actress Connie Chiume, Brvo Le Roux, and Mampintsha, alongside many others who shaped the South African entertainment landscape.
