Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Upstream Oil and Gas Special Task Force (SKK Migas) announced a reduction in natural gas exports to Singapore starting Saturday as the government moves to prioritize domestic industrial feedstocks.
The operational adjustment reduces outbound flows by 31 billion British thermal units per day (BBTUD), drawing 16 BBTUD from Sumatra reserves and 15 BBTUD from Natuna fields.
"Starting on Saturday, we will reduce our gas exports to Singapore," SKK Migas Head Djoko Siswanto stated in Jakarta on Friday evening, clarifying that no other export destinations are affected by the order.
The reduction aligns with broader policy directives outlined by Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia following a cabinet meeting earlier in the week.
Lahadalia indicated that the government is re-evaluating long-term gas export commitments to guarantee adequate feedstock for Indonesia’s expanding downstream petrochemical manufacturing sector.
Under current domestic market obligations, Indonesia allocates approximately 70 percent of its natural gas output to internal markets while exporting the remaining 30 percent.
The minister signaled that future export renewals with regional partners will undergo stricter scrutiny based on national strategic priorities and bilateral economic relations.
