Green has been having a pretty major moment lately, from brat green’s neon takeover to the softer, more wearable shades of matcha, pistachio, and sage nails—all of which make for beautiful manicures all year long. But just when I thought we’d exhausted every possible shade of green, along comes jade green nails: the rich, gemstone-inspired manicure that’s officially made a strong case for a spot in my fall nail rotation.
Unlike brighter, punchy greens of summer, jade has a more sophisticated, muted approach that lands it somewhere between sage and emerald. The shade has an expensive-looking sheen that makes your fingertips look like tiny pieces of jewelry, and it can be sheer and translucent or customized with gemstone-inspired veining, giving you endless options. “I would describe jade green nails as truly one-of-a-kind,” says nail artist Nasreen Espinoza. “No two sets have to look the same because the marbling and veining can create a unique pattern on every nail. The color itself can vary as well—you can mix different shades of green and white to create a more dimensional, stone-like jade effect, or keep it simple with a soft, milky, translucent green reminiscent of the natural stone.”
Of course, burgundy, chocolate brown, and black cherry nails will always have a place in my fall manicure lineup, but I’m excited about a seasonal shade that’s not quite as predictable. Whether you go for a creamy, solid jade green or a dimensional, marbled design, the result is equal parts earthy, elegant, and surprisingly versatile. Ahead, everything you need to know about jade green nails, plus plenty of inspo for your next appointment.
What are jade green nails?
If you’ve ever admired a piece of jade jewelry, you already have a pretty good idea of what this manicure is going for. Jade green nails are inspired by the gemstone’s signature creamy green hues and turn them into everything from simple solid-color manicures to intricate, stone-like nail art. “Jade green is incredibly wearable,” says Nails.INC founder Thea Green. “It’s more interesting than a classic neutral, but it has the same polished, sophisticated effect.”
Unlike a typical (also fall-friendly!) olive green manicure, jade often leans cooler, with muted green, blue-green, and milky tones, helping it to look surprisingly neutral. No matter the style, there’s one thing for certain: Jade green nails are expensive-looking. “There’s also something inherently luxurious about the shade because of its association with the gemstone—it feels rich, glossy, and elevated without being loud,” says Green. “It’s the kind of color that makes a manicure feel considered and fashion-forward, even when the nail itself is kept very simple.”
Why are jade green nails perfect for fall?
Fall manicures usually lean into the rich reds and browns, but greens deserve a spot in the seasonal lineup too. And jade green offers a particularly ~chic~ way to wear the color: Since it’s earthy enough to complement autumn’s coziness but feels fresher than the olive and forest greens we typically reach for this time of year, it’s fresh yet familiar. Jade is “both classy and timeless,” says Espinoza. “The shade offers the perfect pop of color without feeling too bold, making it easy to wear throughout every season.” Yes, you heard that right: You can wear your jade green nails well into the winter, spring, and summer. “It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing—it works with pretty much everything,” says nail artist Riyah Martin, who calls it the “perfect” transition color going into fall.
It’s also super easy to incorporate jade green into your mani. It’s “incredibly versatile when it comes to accents—you can pair jade green with either gold or silver details, making it easy to coordinate with different jewelry and accessories,” says Espinoza.
If you like a lighter take on fall shades, then this manicure is especially made for you. “Jade green is especially beautiful for fall because it contrasts with the deeper, moodier colors we typically associate with the season,” says Espinoza. “It offers a softer alternative to traditional fall shades while still feeling sophisticated and seasonal. To me, it’s a reminder that lighter, softer colors can still have a place in your manicure rotation even as the weather gets colder.”
Plus, jade is considered a symbol of good luck, and there may be no better way to keep a little bit of luck always on you than with a jade green manicure.
How to create jade green nails
The easiest way to try the trend is with a glossy, jade-colored polish. Look for shades that fall somewhere between sage and emerald, depending on how light or saturated you want your manicure to be. Options like Nails.INC It’s Topless 1-Step Gel in Iris or DND Imperial Jade Diva can do the trick.
Make sure to start by properly prepping your nails and cuticles. Let’s quickly talk nail shape. “Jade green is incredibly versatile and works across a range of nail shapes and lengths,” says Green. “On shorter nails, I love a soft square or squoval shape for a clean, modern finish, while medium-length almond and oval shapes give the color a slightly softer, more elegant look.”
If you’re searching for a more literal gemstone effect, ask your nail artist for a translucent green base with subtle white marbling or veining. For a more straightforward take, simply opt for two thin coats of your fave jade green nail polish. You can also experiment with jade French tips, cat eye finishes, or accent nails.
