SUWON — The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization said on the 22nd that it sponsored an autumn train trip for 120 people from families with developmental disabilities in Gyeonggi Province, a group with relatively few opportunities to travel.
The one-day outing took place on the 21st. Participants boarded a train at Suwon Station and traveled to Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, where they visited Gapsa Temple on Mount Gyeryong. They then went to Jangcheon Experience Village in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, to take part in rural activities such as making gochujang, a Korean red chili paste, and rice cakes.
The organization has continued to sponsor travel for families with developmental disabilities under its goal of expanding more equitable access to travel in Gyeonggi Province. Since 2023, it has worked with the Suwon branch of the Korea Parents' Network for People with Disabilities to recruit participants and cover transportation and travel costs.
"For families with disabilities, travel is not an easy decision because of the way others look at them and because of environmental constraints," said Ha Yun-kyung, head of the group's Suwon branch. "The train trip held every October has become a precious memory that families wait a long time for."
"In social contribution, consistency matters more than one-off events," said Cho Won-yong, chief executive of the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization. "We will continue our support so that travelers with disadvantages can enjoy a wide range of tourism resources without discrimination or inconvenience."
Beyond travel support for families with developmental disabilities, the organization also runs ESG social contribution programs for the community and the environment, including sharing tours for children from vulnerable households, the Gyeonggi Tantandaero joint campaign and the "Gyeonggi Sea Together" coastal cleanup activity.
