New Birth

Written about five years ago, following the birth of our first grandson and indeed our first grandchild. Whilst many of our friends had experienced being a new grandparent, the arrival of our own blew my mind!

The experience of our first child producing his own child opened up a whole lot of powerful emotions which manifested itself in writing this piece of music almost straightaway. The music came quickly and I wanted to encapsulate the wonder and miracle that is birth.

Also, the joy and excitement, together with that little tot being the hope of the future and all that entails. The personification of the future and the faltering steps from here to an adult future and their place in the world.

I found it profoundly moving and it reinforced the utter magic and miracle that is birth.
