SHILLONG, Oct 17: The Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL (Employees’) Associations and Unions (CCORMAU) has set a November 30 deadline for the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) management to resolve pending human resource issues, fill vacant sanctioned posts, and regularise eligible contractual staff.
The committee noted that several contractual staff members have served the power corporation for 15 to 23 years without regularisation, despite initial steps taken by the management.
Speaking to reporters after a general meeting at the MeECL headquarters in Lumjingshai on Friday, CCORMAU adviser Arju Dkhar said the persistent delays have caused serious concern among employees statewide.
“The regularisation process has started, but it is moving very slowly. We need to put pressure on the management to act, as the reasons for the delay remain unclear,” Dkhar said. The meeting was attended by employees from across Meghalaya, including the Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills.
According to Dkhar, the management had proposed regularising contractual workers who have completed 15 years of service, subject to the availability of sanctioned posts, satisfactory performance, and clearances from controlling officers. Under the relevant norms, 50% of these posts are to be filled by eligible long-serving contractual employees, while the remaining 50% are open to direct recruitment.
Dkhar also urged the corporation to address widespread vacancies to ensure smooth operations. He noted that while records of sanctioned posts dating back to the undivided Assam period exist, a restructuring exercise is needed to assess current staffing requirements. The committee asked the management to complete this review before the November 30 deadline.
