According to the award notification, which was dated August 31, 2026, the RCWDA cited Kipchumba's courage, persistence, ability to build trust, and long-term dedication to immunisation efforts as the basis for the honour. The organisation also named him a Polio and Immunisation Ambassador.

Kipchumba, who represents persons living with disabilities in the National Assembly, has drawn on his own experience with disability to push for policies that promote equal access and inclusion for marginalised communities.
His advocacy has focused on protecting children from polio, a disease that can cause lifelong paralysis.
Commenting on the recognition, Kipchumba said the award reflects the broader importance of sustained community engagement in immunisation campaigns, particularly in areas where public trust in vaccines remains fragile.

World Polio Day ceremony
The presentation ceremony is timed to coincide with World Polio Day, an annual global event that highlights ongoing efforts to eliminate the disease.
The RCWDA presents its awards to individuals whose contributions advance both polio prevention and disability inclusion.
"This recognition honors individuals whose advocacy, courage, trust-building, persistence, and sustained commitment to service have made a meaningful contribution to advancing polio education, immunization, and prevention," RCWDA said.
Kipchumba's work connects polio eradication to a wider agenda of building communities where persons with disabilities can participate fully in social, economic, and political life.
Global health authorities continue to emphasise that vaccination, community involvement, and political commitment are essential to finishing the campaign against polio worldwide.
