Direct container service from Chennai to Vietnam, Malaysia, and China launched

In a boost to containerised trade and Chennai Port’s access to important Asian trade markets, HAIAN CVI, a new monthly container service, has begun from Chennai to Haiphong (Vietnam), Port Klang West (Malaysia), and Nansha (China).

The first call of the service began onboard the vessel, M.V. Haian Beta, and the route was Chennai-Port Klang West-Haiphong-Nansha, according to a press release.

This new service establishes one more regular maritime service between Chennai and Vietnam, and strengthens the Chennai Port’s links with important trade centres in China and Malaysia.

Sachin S. Kurve, chairperson, Chennai Port Authority, said, “The commencement of HAIAN’s CVI service provides exporters and importers with an additional regular shipping option connecting Chennai with Vietnam and the wider Southeast Asian and South China markets. Chennai Port — with its strong industrial hinterland, established container terminals, and continued focus on trade facilitation — is well-positioned to support the growth of this important trade corridor.”

Against the backdrop of the growing India-Vietnam merchandise trade and both countries agreeing to explore ways to achieve a bilateral trade target of $25 billion by 2030, there is great potential to strengthen containerised trade through Chennai Port.

During the inauguration onboard M.V. Haian Beta, a ceremonial flag exchange took place between the Chennai Port Authority and Hai An Lines. Representatives fromChennai Port Authority, Hai An Lines, Samsara Shipping, and DP World Chennai were present.
