After much persuasion and intervention by the Niger State Deputy Governor and stakeholders, Niger Electricity Distribution Limited (NEDL) has reconnected electricity consumers in Shiroro who were disconnected for their refusal to pay bills.
NEDL had earlier disconnected the Shiroro–Gwada and Shiroro–Erena feeders which supply power to customers, but stakeholders and the Deputy Governor of Niger State facilitated the peaceful resolution.
To this end, NEDL expressed appreciation for the intervention of the deputy governor of Niger State and commended all stakeholders for their cooperation, constructive engagement and commitment towards achieving the resolution.
“We remain committed to working collaboratively with our stakeholders and the communities we serve to promote sustainable electricity services and improve customer experience,” the management said.
Recall that four days earlier, NEDL had cut off electricity supply through the 132 kV Shiroro Transmission Station–33 kV Gwada Feeder and the 132 kV Shiroro Transmission Station–33 kV Erena Feeder, so causing residents in the area to be in darkness.
In a statement, NEDL explained that the action followed the persistent accumulation of outstanding electricity bills due to widespread non-payment by customers along the corridor.
According to NEDL, despite repeated engagements and interventions by the company, the customers refused to pay their bills.
