The forms, made available through the department's official website, cover several work permit categories designed for different employment arrangements, including short-term jobs, seasonal work and longer-term paid employment.
The publication provides prospective applicants with access to the relevant forms and guidance on the documentation required for each category.
Work permit categories available in Cyprus
Foreign nationals can find application forms for five main employment categories:
- Employment lasting up to three months
- Employment lasting between three and six months
- Seasonal employment
- Remunerated employment under the single permit category, known as GEN
- Self-employment
Each category has its own application procedures and supporting-document requirements. Applicants should identify the category that matches their intended work arrangement before submitting their paperwork.
Employment lasting up to three months
Foreign nationals applying for employment lasting up to three months must submit an entry permit application and a temporary work permit application, according to the published requirements.
This category is intended for short-term employment arrangements. Applicants should check the official instructions to confirm which supporting documents apply to their individual circumstances.
Employment between three and six months
The category for employment lasting between three and six months includes additional documentation requirements, such as a registration document and a release agreement.
The release agreement sets out the conditions under which a worker may leave a contract with a particular employer. Applicants should review the applicable terms carefully before signing employment-related documents.
Seasonal employment
Cyprus also provides a category for seasonal workers, identified as the ESW permit.
The application materials include provisions for permit renewals and a separate renewal process for workers who change employers during their stay.
Applicants in this category must also sign a declaration undertaking to cover the cost of a third-country national's return journey. A third-country national generally refers to someone who is not a citizen of an EU member state or another country covered by the applicable arrangements.
Seasonal workers should review the relevant conditions to understand their responsibilities and the procedures for extending or changing their employment arrangements.
Remunerated employment under the GEN single permit
The remunerated employment single permit, known as GEN, covers several procedures associated with paid employment in Cyprus.
The relevant forms address initial entry, permit renewals and changes of employer. The published materials also include provisions relating to residence permits for certain family members of European Union citizens.
Some professional groups have dedicated subcategories within the wider application framework. These include trainee accountants, athletes, coaches, pub workers, priests and holders of Special Identity Cards of the Diaspora.
Because the requirements can differ by occupation and personal circumstances, applicants should consult the specific form and supporting instructions relevant to their category.
Self-employment
Self-employment is also listed among the available application categories.
Foreign nationals intending to work for themselves should consult the Migration Department's relevant application materials to determine which documents and conditions apply to their proposed activity.
How to apply for a Cyprus work permit
Applicants must complete the relevant application form and provide the supporting documents required for their employment category.
Depending on the application, additional paperwork may include an authorization-of-representative form and a declaration of mailing address.
The forms can be accessed through the Cyprus Migration Department's official website. Applicants should use the department's official portal to locate the form for their specific category and check the latest instructions before submitting an application.
The department is based at Leoforos Archiepiskopou Makariou III 90, 1077 Nicosia, Cyprus.
Foreign nationals should note that access to an application form does not, by itself, guarantee approval of a work or residence permit. Eligibility, supporting documentation and any additional requirements depend on the relevant category and the applicant's circumstances.
Prospective applicants are therefore advised to verify the current requirements with the Migration Department before making employment or travel arrangements.
