The yellow warning takes effect at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in a small part of the mountain region, but will be extended southward to cover a larger area on Monday and in the early hours of Tuesday.
Very strong southwesterly or westerly winds are expected in exposed mountain areas, with local storms in the high mountains. Snow showers may occur at times.
SMHI urges inexperienced people to cancel mountain trips and warns that it may be difficult to get around and to put up and secure tents.
During snowdrifts, visibility can also be reduced, making it difficult to find your way.
In sub-zero temperatures or rain, there is a risk of frostbite.
