The police are clearing the air about the arrest of Washington Bramble at Wednesday’s CHOGM town hall meeting.
The lawmen said the detention was linked to an ongoing investigation into a previous matter at Gray’s Farm.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 22 October “The Police Administration wishes to make it abundantly clear that Mr. Bramble’s arrest was in no way connected to his presence at, or participation in, the town hall meeting,” the statement said.
The police said they had made several unsuccessful attempts to locate Bramble for questioning in connection with the investigation before Wednesday’s incident.
Bramble was at the town hall meeting at the John E. St. Luce Finance and Conference Centre, where residents and business owners were given an opportunity to question officials about preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
He stood to ask about security, questioning how officials would protect visiting delegates when, in his view, law enforcement appeared unable to protect local residents.
The meeting was intended to address public concerns about traffic changes, security checkpoints, transportation and access to homes and businesses during CHOGM, which runs from November 1 to 4.
The police administration said it remained committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and residents. It also urged the public to support and co-operate with officers in carrying out their lawful duties.
