Paul Walker founded disaster charity in 2010; it helped 13,093 people in 2025

More than a decade after actor Paul Walker died, the disaster-relief organisation he founded continues to help communities affected by natural disasters. Reach Out WorldWide (ROWW), established in 2010 following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, reported that it impacted 13,093 people through its work in 2025, supported by 738 volunteers.

According to the organisation’s official Our Impact page, its work focuses on filling gaps in emergency response, particularly when affected communities need immediate assistance before larger relief operations are fully mobilised. The latest figures reflect how Walker’s original effort has grown into a continuing disaster-response mission.

How the inspired Paul Walker

Walker, best known for his role in The Fast and the Furious film franchise, founded ROWW after travelling to Haiti in January 2010, following a powerful earthquake that devastated the country.

He assembled a team of friends and volunteers to provide assistance to people affected by the disaster. During the response, Walker recognised that communities needed more than donated supplies. Skilled volunteers, including medical professionals and people with construction experience, could help address urgent needs that might otherwise go unmet. After returning from Haiti, he established ROWW to organise similar responses to natural disasters.

The organisation’s mission was built around deploying small, agile teams that could reach affected areas quickly and work alongside local responders. Walker participated in relief efforts himself rather than limiting his involvement to fundraising. His commitment helped establish the organisation’s hands-on approach, which continues to guide its work.

How ROWW responds when disaster strikes

ROWW describes its work as filling the gap between a disaster and the arrival of wider assistance.

Its teams include volunteer first responders and professionals with medical and construction expertise, allowing them to support local communities during the early stages of recovery. The organisation's work extends beyond immediate relief, with volunteers helping communities address urgent needs after disasters.Medical volunteers, including nurses and paramedics, provide care when local healthcare facilities are overwhelmed or difficult to reach.

The organisation also distributes essential supplies and supports rebuilding work, depending on the needs of each affected community. ROWW says its smaller teams allow it to mobilise quickly and reach places that may receive limited attention from larger relief organisations.

Its assistance is provided at no cost to disaster survivors, helping families preserve their resources for longer-term recovery.

From Haiti to disaster zones around the world

The organisation's work expanded beyond its initial response in Haiti.

Its official impact page records deployments to Chile in 2010, the Philippines in 2011, Nepal in 2014, Vanuatu in 2015, Fiji in 2016, Indonesia in 2018 and the Bahamas in 2019. It also responded during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and assisted communities in Oregon and Tennessee in 2021. In 2023, its deployment history included Turkey, followed by North Carolina in 2024 and California and Jamaica in 2025.These responses demonstrate how the organisation's original mission has developed to address different emergencies, from earthquakes and hurricanes to floods and other disasters.

The specific work varies according to local conditions, with teams providing practical support where it is most urgently needed.

What the 2025 figures reveal

ROWW's official impact page reports that 13,093 people were impacted by its work in 2025, with 738 volunteers contributing during the year. These figures offer a measure of the reach of a programme that relies heavily on volunteer participation. The organisation also publishes annual impact reports and financial disclosures, allowing supporters to examine its activities and funding.

Its approach places emphasis on practical assistance, rapid deployment and cooperation with local communities rather than measuring relief solely through money spent or supplies distributed.Walker died in a car crash in November 2013, aged 40. His disaster-relief initiative has continued through the organisation he established, with volunteers carrying forward its focus on helping communities recover after emergencies. The 2025 figures show how the effort that began with a small relief team responding to the Haiti earthquake has developed into a continuing operation. For ROWW, the central aim remains to reach people facing urgent needs, restore access and safety, and provide support during the difficult period between a disaster and long-term recovery.
