Boy, oh boy, things were really on fire ahead of this game in Gladbach!
After six straight defeats, a seventh loss in the first seven games of the season loomed against Champions League participants Stuttgart. No other club had ever managed that "feat" in the Bundesliga's 63-year history.
Not even the legendary Tasmania Berlin side of 1965/66 or FC Schalke 04 in the pandemic-hit 2020/21 season got off to such a bad start.
But Gladbach managed to avoid that fate too! With a surprise 3–2 win in Swabia, the Foals picked up their first points of the season while avoiding a place in Bundesliga history for all the wrong reasons.
Was this the start of a turnaround?
