Lord Malayappa Swamy being taken out in a procession on the golden Kalpavruksha Vahanam on Thursday, the fourth day of the Navaratri Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala.
The sacred hill town reverberated with devotional fervour on Thursday as Lord Malayappa Swamy, accompanied by His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, appeared in the ‘Bakasura Vadha alankaram’ on the Kalpavruksha Vahanam on the fourth day of the ongoing Navaratri Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara.
The grand procession unfolded amid the rhythmic strains of mangala vadyams, devotional bhajans and traditional kolatam performances.
Temple elephants led the procession, while Jeeyangars recited verses from the Divya Prabandham. Devotees thronged the streets, offering camphor harati to the processional deity and seeking the Lord’s blessings.
In Hindu mythology, the Kalpavruksha is believed to have emerged during the churning of the Milky Ocean and symbolises abundance and fulfilment of righteous aspirations. The Lord’s appearance on the celestial vehicle is regarded as an auspicious manifestation of divine benevolence.
Adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the festivities, 412 artistes belonging to 16 troupes from 10 States presented an array of classical and folk art forms along the procession route. Performances included Kuchipudi from Andhra Pradesh, Odissi from Odisha, Sattriya and Bihu from Assam, Raibenshe from West Bengal, and traditional dance forms from Kerala, alongside other regional presentations. The artistes captivated devotees with their colourful costumes and rhythmic movements, showcasing India’s cultural diversity.
TTD Executive Officer Muddada Ravichandra felicitated the performers representing various States.
The festivities came to an end with the procession of Sarva Bhoopala Vahanam in the night symbolising the Lord’s sovereignty and guardianship of the universe.
