Tyreek Hill has been ordered to pay $500,000 in compensatory damages to his estranged wife, Keeta Vaccaro, after a Miami jury found the former NFL wide receiver liable for two counts of battery in a civil case stemming from allegations of domestic abuse.
The verdict, delivered on Tuesday, October 13, marks a significant development in the legal dispute between the former couple.

However, the jury reached a mixed decision, finding Hill not liable for eight other claims brought by Vaccaro. She was also denied the punitive damages she had sought, according to multiple reports.
The case concerned alleged incidents during the couple's marriage, including confrontations in January 2024 and April 2025.
The jury found Hill liable for battery in both instances, with evidence relating to the April 2025 incident including footage captured by a nanny camera, according to reports from the trial.
The $500,000 award represents compensatory damages, intended to compensate Vaccaro for harm established in the civil proceedings. It is separate from punitive damages, which she also pursued but the jury did not grant.
It is important to distinguish the outcome from a criminal conviction: Hill was found liable in a civil lawsuit, not found guilty in a criminal domestic violence trial. The jury's decision applied to two specific battery claims, while Hill was cleared of the other eight claims considered by the jury.
Hill's attorney, Christi Bright, said her client was satisfied with the outcome despite the two findings against him.
“Mr. Hill was very pleased that he was able to get his story out and to be able to tell the world what he’s not been able to speak about,” Bright told reporters, according to ESPN. “He’s very grateful.”
What the jury heard during the civil trial
Vaccaro testified during the weeklong proceedings about what she described as a pattern of physical and verbal abuse. Among the allegations she raised was an incident in the summer of 2024, when she was pregnant with the couple's daughter, Capri.
“The first time he struck at my stomach and punched it and I saved myself,” Lakeeta said at the podium as she fought back tears. “He was like, ‘I don’t want the baby.’”
Hill denied that specific allegation, and the jury did not find him liable for that claim. Their daughter was born in November 2024.
The two battery findings related to separate incidents in January 2024 and April 2025. The latter involved nanny-camera footage that became a notable element of the trial.
Hill was allegedly heard calling Vaccaro a “broke bitch” during an argument, while the dispute also involved an alleged attempt to take their daughter from the home.
Hill denied physically harming Vaccaro in the incidents she described, although his testimony included an admission that he had made threatening remarks about getting other people to hurt her. He said he felt “deeply ashamed” about that statement.
The jury's decision did not resolve every allegation made during the case. Instead, it separated the claims on which Vaccaro established Hill's liability from those on which she did not prevail. The absence of punitive damages also means the final award was limited to the $500,000 in compensatory damages.
How the verdict could affect Hill's NFL future
The financial award arrives at a difficult time for Hill's football career. The five-time First-Team All-Pro receiver remains a free agent after the Miami Dolphins released him in February 2026. His departure followed a severe knee injury sustained during a game against the New York Jets in September 2025.
Hill spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning a Super Bowl with the franchise before being traded to Miami ahead of the 2022 season.
His explosive speed and production made him one of the league's most recognisable receivers, but his potential return to professional football now faces both physical and off-field uncertainty.
The Chiefs had reportedly contacted Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, about a possible reunion as they considered options at wide receiver.
However, the team subsequently signed Justin Watson to its practice squad, and there has been no confirmation that Kansas City intends to bring Hill back.
The NFL is also conducting its own review under the league's personal conduct policy. Following the verdict, a spokesperson told Pro Football Talk: “We have been monitoring developments in the matter, which remains under review of the personal conduct policy.”
The league's process is separate from the civil lawsuit, meaning Tuesday's decision does not automatically determine whether Hill will face disciplinary action or whether a team will sign him.
The NFL can assess the case under its own rules, while any interested franchise must weigh his football ability against the legal outcome and the broader circumstances.
For now, the clearest financial consequence is the $500,000 compensatory award to Vaccaro. The jury rejected several other claims and did not award punitive damages, but its findings on two counts of battery could have implications beyond the courtroom as Hill attempts to return to the NFL.
Whether he plays again remains uncertain. His potential comeback will depend not only on his recovery from injury but also on the league's ongoing review and the willingness of a team to offer him another opportunity.
