Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): A three-day Seva Setu Camp for awareness and facilitation under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) was inaugurated at the DC’s Office Complex, Purana Bazar, Dimapur, on October 14. The camp will continue until October 16.According to a DIPR report, Executive Engineer, Electrical Division, Dimapur, Er Lhuvoyi, in his introductory speech, said the scheme aims to bridge the gap between government welfare programmes and citizens by creating awareness and facilitating access to available benefits. He highlighted the scheme’s potential to reduce household electricity expenses through rooftop solar installations. While the national target is to cover one crore households, nearly 40% of the target had been achieved, whereas Nagaland had covered only around 5–6% of its target of 10,000 households, with approximately 500 households benefiting so far, he said.Lhuvoyi explained that government subsidies could significantly reduce the initial installation cost, allowing households to recover their investment through electricity savings over time. He urged participants to spread awareness about the scheme and encouraged households to install rooftop solar systems to move towards energy self-reliance.The camp was formally inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, who urged the public to avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits.Chang said the initiative provides an opportunity for households to generate clean energy with financial assistance through subsidies from the Central and State governments. He expressed gratitude to both governments for introducing the scheme and acknowledged the support of banks and financial institutions in extending loans to beneficiaries. He informed that vendors and bank representatives would be available at the camp to assist people with on-the-spot registration. He also urged the public not to delay availing themselves of the benefits, stating that the subsidy benefits were available only until March.Chang further noted that surplus electricity generated through rooftop solar systems could be fed back into the grid, contributing to the power supply and benefiting the wider community. He appealed to public representatives to disseminate information about the scheme and help ensure wider participation in Dimapur.
