The Zamfara State Police Command has sensitised 757 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on personal safety and security awareness amid prevailing security challenges in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, delivered the security awareness lecture at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Zamfara on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
The programme was attended by the NYSC State Coordinator, members of his management team and representatives of other security agencies.
Bello urged corps members to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary risks and comply with security advisories issued by relevant authorities.
He advised them to exercise caution when travelling outside the camp and avoid unfamiliar or high-risk locations without adequate information and necessary precautions.
The police commissioner also urged the corps members to promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the appropriate security agencies rather than attempting to investigate potential threats themselves.
He stressed that corps members were not security operatives and should prioritise their personal safety at all times.
Bello emphasised the importance of collaboration among the police, other security agencies, NYSC management, host communities and
corps members in maintaining a safe environment.
He assured the corps members of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging them to remain law-abiding and serve as responsible ambassadors of the NYSC scheme.
The commissioner commended the NYSC State Coordinator and his management team for organising the programme, while acknowledging the contributions of other security agencies to promoting safety in the state.
In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator thanked the police commissioner for the lecture, noting that the knowledge gained would help corps members make informed decisions and adopt safer practices throughout their service year.
The police command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding residents and visitors to the state, urging corps members to cooperate with security agencies and remain conscious of their surroundings.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
