KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from 15 people to assist investigations into the alleged failure to remit RM230.9 million in government revenue collections involving electronic service providers MyEG Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd.
Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said in a statement that those questioned comprised 12 Road Transport Department (RTD) officers and three bank officers.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust.
"The investigation concerns the suspected failure to transfer government revenue collections amounting to RM230,913,503.55 involving the two companies," he said.
On Oct 13, Rusdi confirmed that police had recorded six statements following a police report lodged on Oct 7 to assist investigations.
It was reported that RTD had suspended the services of MyEG Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd, both under the MYEG Group, as its collection agents effective Oct 5.
RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the decision followed a review of the companies' compliance with the terms and conditions of their agreement, as well as outstanding obligations that remained unresolved.
The suspension came after the Transport Ministry separately confirmed to business news portal The Edge that Zetrix AI owed the government more than RM200 million in unremitted collections.
The amount involved money collected from customers for vehicle road tax and driving licence renewals, as well as traffic summonses.
Zetrix AI, formerly known as MYEG Services Bhd, has provided online government services, including those linked to RTD, since 2000.
