Of Course Dakota Johnson Makes Cords Look Cool

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that wherever Dakota Johnson’s wardrobe goes, the rest of us follow. And while the actor has long championed cigarette jeans, inspiring countless articles on the subject of good denim, yesterday she traded them for chocolate-brown cords – making a convincing case for this often-overlooked grandpa staple.

Worn with ballet flats and a graphic tee for a stroll around Los Angeles, the cords marked a change of pace from the lace-trimmed Stella McCartney dresses and strapless Saint Laurent minidresses Johnson has been wearing to promote her new film, Verity, on late-night TV shows. They were, however, in keeping with her longstanding affection for ’70s style, alongside her signature wispy fringe and penchant for suede jackets.

And here’s the thing: cords might traditionally conjure thoughts of an OAP settling down with the Radio Times, but on Dakota they suddenly feel like something every cool girl should own. Consider us converted.
