CPI(M) district secretary V. Chenthamarakshan has demanded justice for the families of the three youngsters killed in the Nedumbassery car crash. He alleged that attempts were being made to weaken the case against the accused. One of the victims, Gopika, daughter of Pradeep Kumar from Mannarkkad, was a source of support and hope for her family, Mr. Chenthamarakshan said.
He expressed suspicion that influential people had intervened from the beginning to downplay the accident. Gopika’s family too raised concerns about possible attempts to sabotage the case, he said.
Mr. Chenthamarakshan questioned the decision to transfer the accused to a borstal facility at Thrikkakara instead of a sub-jail after their arrest. The move had raised concerns about possible outside influence, he said. Gopika’s family too questioned the transfer. “Attempts to sabotage the case using money and influence will not be allowed. Those responsible for taking away the support of a poor family must receive the punishment they deserve,” Mr. Chenthamarakshan said.
He also demanded action against Hindu Aikya Vedi leader K.P. Sasikala and others who allegedly made derogatory remarks about the accident victims. Mr. Chenthamarakshan said that linking every incident to caste and religion would promote communal division. He said insulting a family grieving the loss of its daughter was unacceptable and demanded that Ms. Sasikala withdraw her remarks and apologise.
