The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has rescheduled the Combined Recruitment Test (CRT) for the appointment of principals and vice-principals in the Education Department of the Delhi government. The examination, which was originally planned for November 1, 2026, will now take place on January 9, 2027, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The revised schedule was announced through a corrigendum issued by the commission. The recruitment drive covers 828 vacancies across the two positions, including 124 posts of principal and 704 posts of vice-principal in the Education Department of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). The recruitment was advertised under Advertisement No. 51/2026.
The decision to defer the examination followed a request from the Government School Teachers Association (GSTA), Delhi, which had approached the commission seeking additional preparation time for eligible teachers. According to GSTA general secretary Ajay Veer Yadav, several government school teachers and vice-principals were finding it difficult to devote sufficient time to competitive examination preparation because of their existing professional responsibilities. Alongside their routine teaching and administrative work, many educators had also been assigned Booth Level Officer (BLO) duties as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The additional responsibilities had increased their workload, leaving them with limited time to prepare for the recruitment test. In view of these circumstances, the association requested UPSC to postpone the examination so that eligible candidates could receive adequate time to prepare while continuing to discharge their official duties.
Welcoming the commission's decision, the GSTA general secretary said the revised examination schedule would benefit thousands of eligible teachers by allowing them to prepare more effectively and demonstrate their capabilities during the selection process.
Applicants are advised to refer to the official UPSC corrigendum and recruitment notification for authoritative information regarding the examination and any subsequent instructions issued by the commission.
