A couple was arrested in connection with the death of their four-month-old daughter at Kuttikkattoor near Peruvayal in Kozhikode, with the police suspecting that the infant was fatally assaulted by her father under the influence of alcohol.
The accused were identified as Shijin, a native of Vayalkkara in Kuttikkattoor, and his wife, Anjana. Anjana was arrested for allegedly concealing the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death. The arrests were recorded on Friday (October 23).
The infant died on October 1 last year. She developed health complications and was taken to a private hospital and later shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where she died.
A post-mortem examination raised suspicions of foul play. It revealed serious injuries, including injuries to the child’s head.
During questioning, Anjana reportedly disclosed that Shijin had assaulted the child.
