Scania has officially opened its Walvis Bay dealership, marking a significant investment in its long-term commitment to Namibia and strengthening its support for customers operating across some of Southern Africa’s most important transport corridors.
The opening also marks the first official launch of the Scania SUPER in the region and the introduction of the first SUPER trucks in Namibia.
The new facility builds on Scania’s presence in Walvis Bay, where the branch was established in 2008 as a support point for customers operating through the port. Over time, its role has expanded to support transport operations along the Trans-Kalahari, Trans-Caprivi and Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi corridors, reinforcing the town’s importance as a strategic logistics gateway.
The investment responds to the evolving needs of Namibia’s transport industry and the growing demand for premium transport solutions. By bringing a comprehensive range of sales, workshop and aftersales services closer to customers, Scania aims to improve vehicle uptime, strengthen technical support and help transport operators manage their operating costs throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
“The opening of our Walvis Bay dealership represents an important step in strengthening the support we provide to our customers in Namibia,” says Clifford Marchbank, Country Manager for Scania Namibia. “Our customers operate in demanding environments where reliability, vehicle availability and operational efficiency are essential. This investment brings our capabilities closer to their operations and reinforces our commitment to supporting their businesses over the long term.”
A facility built around customer uptime
The Walvis Bay dealership offers a comprehensive range of services, including vehicle sales, workshop and maintenance services, diagnostics, Scania parts, driver support and customer service solutions.
The workshop is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment and specialised tooling to service the latest generation of Scania vehicles. A dust-controlled facility, modern cleaning facilities and highly trained Scania technicians further support the maintenance requirements of vehicles operating in Namibia’s challenging conditions.
Customers can also access preventive maintenance programmes, technical support and responsive service and repair capabilities. These services are designed to help identify potential issues early, reduce unnecessary downtime and maintain vehicle performance throughout its working life.
For transport operators working across long distances and international borders, dependable aftersales support and access to the right parts are critical to keeping goods moving. The facility strengthens Scania’s ability to support customers across their operations, from vehicle acquisition and maintenance planning to ongoing technical assistance.
Introducing Scania SUPER to Namibia
A key highlight of the opening is the introduction of the Scania SUPER powertrain platform to the Namibian market. The platform represents Scania’s latest advancement in powertrain efficiency, drivability and operating performance, with a particular focus on helping transport operators improve fuel economy and reduce their total cost of ownership.
The Scania G460 SUPER combines an advanced 13-litre engine with the latest gearbox technology and optimised driveline components.
Together, these technologies are designed to deliver efficient power transmission, strong torque delivery and improved drivability across the varied terrain encountered in long-distance transport.
Fuel remains one of the largest operating expenses for transport businesses. Improving fuel efficiency can therefore have a meaningful impact on fleet economics, particularly for operators undertaking demanding regional and cross-border journeys.
Beyond fuel consumption, the SUPER platform offers benefits through component durability, flexible maintenance planning and driver comfort. These factors contribute to a broader approach to vehicle ownership, in which performance is measured not only by the truck’s capabilities on the road but also by its contribution to the customer’s overall business performance.
“The introduction of SUPER is an important milestone for Scania and the Namibian transport industry,” says Marchbank.
“Transport operators are under constant pressure to manage fuel expenditure, improve productivity and maintain reliable service levels. The SUPER platform addresses these priorities through a combination of fuel efficiency, performance and advanced powertrain technology. Its introduction also reflects our confidence in the Namibian market and our commitment to bringing the latest Scania solutions to our customers.”
Supporting customer success: EBE Transport takes delivery of five G460 SUPER trucks
The opening coincides with Scania’s handover of five G460 SUPER trucks to EBE Transport, demonstrating the practical application of the new platform in Namibia’s transport sector.
EBE Transport selected the G460 SUPER for its fuel efficiency, reliability and long-haul capabilities. The trucks will be deployed in the company’s long-distance transport operations, supporting the movement of goods across Namibia and neighbouring markets.
For an operator working across regional and cross-border routes, vehicle efficiency and availability play an important role in managing costs and maintaining productivity.
The G460 SUPER is designed to support these requirements through efficient powertrain performance, flexible maintenance and reduced total cost of ownership over the vehicle lifecycle.
Scania expects the vehicles to contribute to lower fuel expenditure, improved fleet productivity, increased uptime and enhanced driver satisfaction. The new dealership will further support EBE Transport and other customers through access to technical expertise, maintenance services and parts.
“The handover to EBE Transport demonstrates the value of working closely with our customers to understand their operational requirements and identify solutions that support their business objectives,” says Marchbank.
“Our responsibility extends beyond delivering a vehicle. It is about providing the products, services and ongoing support that help customers operate efficiently, remain competitive and achieve sustainable business results.”
A long-term commitment to Namibia
The Walvis Bay dealership and SUPER introduction form part of Scania’s broader priorities for Namibia: expanding its presence, growing the Scania vehicle population, strengthening aftersales support and helping customers reduce their operating costs.
As regional trade and cross-border transport continue to underpin economic activity, Scania remains focused on providing transport solutions that combine vehicle performance, service support and financial offerings suited to customer requirements.
The new facility reinforces the company’s ability to support customers throughout the vehicle lifecycle, while the SUPER platform expands the range of technologies available to operators seeking greater efficiency and improved operating economics.
Through continued investment in its network, people and products, Scania aims to build long-term customer partnerships and contribute to a more efficient and sustainable transport industry in Namibia.
