- He argued that the Mt.Kenya region shall only prefer one candidate to occupy the seat and support President Ruto's ambitions.
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has accused Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru over going after the Deputy President's seat and undermining its current occupant Kithure Kindiki.
CS Ruku argues that Waiguru is sabotajing DP Kindiki's prominence in the Mount Kenya region, arguing that the politically dominant region shall only prefer one candidate to occupy the seat and support President William Ruto's ambitions.
Speaking at the ACK St. John's Church in Kiambu County, CS Ruku maintained that the second-in-command's position is a preserve for the President and can only be determined when he makes his choice.
"I have seen others from this region saying that they are also vying for the Deputy President's seat. The president is the only one who knows who can help him work not going online and on podiums saying you will be in the race. That is undermining the president's seat," he said.
"That kind of behaviour we have seen with the governor of Kirinyaga should stop. If you want that seat look for President Ruto, you sit down and talk, That seat is not being contested for, the only person who knows the person to occupy it is the president."
Governor Waiguru, on October 10, officially declared her interest in running for the as President Ruto's running mate in the 2027 General Election, with an ambition to run for the presidency in 2032.
Waiguru said she was positioning herself for a role in the national leadership, citing her presence alongside President William Ruto during key international engagements.
She has reaffirmed her support for Ruto amid shifting political alignments, dismissing reports that she could join the camp of Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua.
