IPOH: Two crocodiles spotted in Sungai Perak near the Bagan Datuk jetty on Oct 19 will not be captured or relocated, as the river is their natural habitat.
Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Dr Pazil Abdul Patah said the department received a report from the Hutan Melintang Fire and Rescue Station at 6pm that day.
"Following the report, Perhilitan conducted an investigation and monitored the area the next day to assess the safety situation," he said in a statement to Bernama today.
A separate sighting of a three-metre-long crocodile near Kampung Pasang Api on Oct 20 had raised concerns among residents and fishermen.
Pazil said Perhilitan would continue monitoring the area and was considering installing warning signs to alert residents and visitors to the presence of crocodiles.
He advised residents and the fishing community to prioritise safety, keep away from riverbanks and avoid disturbing or provoking the reptiles.
Members of the public who spot crocodiles should inform Perhilitan immediately, he added.
