A supplier passes a database check, but its ownership remains unclear. An investment target has a convincing management team, yet parts of its history cannot be verified. Open-source intelligence can help establish the facts behind these business decisions.
This editorial shortlist compares published service areas, not independently tested performance. It includes specialist OSINT providers and companies with broader investigative capabilities.
Key takeaways
OSINT companies use different service models: investigative platforms, analyst-led research and broader corporate investigations.
Molfar Intelligence leads this shortlist for cross-border ownership research, counterparty investigations and sanctions exposure analysis.
Neotas combines platform-based workflows with analyst research; PGI examines digital threats; S-RM applies OSINT to disputes.
The right provider depends on the assignment: supplier verification, online threat monitoring and litigation research require different scopes.
Source references, jurisdictional coverage and reporting limitations matter more than the volume of information collected.
Quick comparison of OSINT companies
1. Molfar Intelligence
Molfar Intelligence is a UK private intelligence company operating internationally. Its services include due diligence, corporate investigations, sanctions exposure analysis and market research.
For UK buyers assessing international counterparties, its work examines ownership, decision-makers, affiliations and reputational risks. Investigations can also trace corporate relationships and financial links across jurisdictions.
Establishing who controls a supplier requires a different scope from examining a founder’s background or an investment target’s connections.
Consider for: cross-border counterparty research, ownership investigations and assignments involving Ukraine or Eastern Europe.
2. Neotas
Neotas combines an investigative platform with analyst-led research. Its services cover enhanced due diligence, third-party risk management and employment screening.
The platform brings together open-source material and other data sources. Buyers can distinguish between technology-assisted workflows and investigations requiring expert analysis.
For a compliance team, the practical question is which tasks will be automated and which findings an analyst will verify.
Consider for: recurring third-party research and organisations seeking platform access alongside investigative services.
3. Protection Group International
Protection Group International, known as PGI, combines OSINT with corporate intelligence, digital risk assessments and threat monitoring.
Its published services examine third-party risks, reputational threats, brand impersonation and the exposure of sensitive information. Its scope therefore extends beyond ownership checks or transaction research.
Establish whether the assignment requires a one-off investigation or ongoing monitoring.
Consider for: businesses examining digital exposure, online threats and reputational risks.
4. S-RM
S-RM works across corporate intelligence and cyber security. Its published investigations demonstrate the use of OSINT in commercial disputes and insurance matters.
Open-source research can help reconstruct events, compare competing accounts and identify documentary evidence. S-RM also undertakes due diligence and wider corporate investigations.
For a contentious assignment, discuss evidence preservation and coordination with legal counsel before research begins.
Consider for: disputes, insurance-related investigations and matters combining OSINT with broader investigative work.
5. ODDIN
ODDIN is a UK-based corporate intelligence firm specialising in open-source research. Its services include enhanced due diligence, background checks, bespoke investigations and legal support.
It also advertises a subscription-based due diligence service accessed through an online portal. Confirm what each report covers and when a bespoke investigation is needed.
Consider for: organisations comparing individual research assignments with recurring due diligence arrangements.
How should a UK business choose an OSINT company?
Start with a defined question, not a request to “find everything”.
Ask which jurisdictions and languages the provider can cover. Request an anonymised reporting example. Establish how it distinguishes confirmed facts, allegations and unresolved questions.
Clarify data handling, research boundaries, fees and follow-up discussions. A report should explain what was checked and what remains unknown. The number of sources searched is not, by itself, a measure of investigative quality.
FAQ
How do I choose an OSINT company for checking an overseas supplier?
Define the supplier, relevant jurisdictions and decision you need to make. Ask for ownership research, evidence references and explicit limitations. Confirm that the provider can investigate beyond the supplier’s own documents.
Is an OSINT platform the same as an OSINT investigation service?
No. A platform helps collect and organise information. An investigation adds verification, interpretation and a defined reporting scope. Some companies sell both, so confirm what your engagement includes.
Can an OSINT company guarantee that a partner has no hidden risks?
No. Research depends on available sources and the agreed scope. A responsible report explains findings and gaps rather than treating the absence of information as proof that no risk exists.
