The police arrested over 50 members of Makkal Adhikaram after they blocked a train at the Egmore railway station on Tuesday (October 13, 2026).
The protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. They assembled on Platform 5 and staged a blockade in front of the Bikaner-Madurai Superfast Express. The police personnel removed them from the tracks and took them to a community hall. The protest delayed the train’s departure by 10 minutes.
Makkal Adhikaram general secretary Chezhiyan alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Mr. Gyanesh Kumar deprived 13 crore people of their voting rights through the SIR. Kovan, general secretary of Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam, demanded the annulment of elections held since 2024.
